Being Butthurt

Read this post called “Overcompensation”

This is an extremely personal rant.

I took a recent survey of 20 people who read the blog. They’re all awesome and I will buy them a Venti ™.

I was working on something entirely different for the blog but certain events have led me to believe that this is a more important topic to write about.

“Shit just got serious, son.”

There is a new populist opinion about how money isn’t really that important. I guess it probably isn’t, but who am I to judge that when all I do my entire day is try to make more of it? I want it, I need it and I like it. #TWSS #Max #HungryForWhiteDhokla

The recent trend I have noticed on social networking sites like Twitter is that being able to afford things, pisses people off. A photo of a latte at Starbucks gets people rilled up and the person who posted it gets bombarded with hashtags and corny jokes about how “masala chai” is better.

“It’s like being a faggot is cool now.” - This Guy

It’s reached a level where taking a shit on something you don’t agree with has become extremely predictable. Maybe you don’t like the coffee they serve at Starbucks and prefer the “masala chai” sold on the street and that’s completely okay but there is no reason to shit on someone who can and does like visiting a particular coffee shop. Usually it seems like people are trying to start a class-war. But there is absolutely no point in trying to start a class-war with people you don’t even know. There is nothing you get out of it and there is nothing productive about it.

“How dare he make money and do something he enjoys at the same time? This is outrageous! He probably smuggles gold!”

Yes, the distribution of wealth in this country/world/universe is messed up. Yes, some people got more lucky. Yes, that’s how it works and will work for the rest of our lives. If you want more, go try working instead of sitting online and complaining about it.

“Hey, this dude probably inherited a lot of money. So he doesn’t understand the value of money and that’s why he buys all the possible gaming consoles and drinks coffee at Starbucks and buys songs from iTunes when he could just buy a ₹ 35k PC, masala chai and use Piratebay.”

I think this wouldn’t have happened if people actually read their textbooks when they had the chance to. They would, mostly, read about the term called “value”. Essentially, people would figure out that “value” means different things to different people not just in a small way but in a far macro way.

Textbook stuff: People find ‘value’ in different things. I’d rather have a hatchback and an iPhone than a sedan and a Blackberry, for example. People need to realise, the term ‘value’ is coherently dependent on the ‘income’ of a person. Not everybody thinks an iPhone is worth the investment, they’d rather have a better laptop. Not everybody thinks a better laptop is worth the investment, they’d rather have a better tablet. Value is not something which can be measured. Not a lot of people find value in certain products and segments of products and that’s completely natural. Value in terms of product is also extremely dependent on the priorities of the person, which obviously differs from individual to individual. Thus, what might be seemingly good value to you; might be horseshit to me and vice-a-versa.

I’ve started to assume that people online are usually just overgrown men sitting in their basements and wondering why they can’t have any friends. They’re also generally extremely “butthurt” (For a lack of a better word) about anything you can afford to do and they can’t.

I know it’s hard to believe that such people actually exist and that’s why I am going to launch a public-awareness campaign about such people. I think, together, we can cure these delusional folks and help them. I think, together, we can and we will fight this deadly disease of being “butthurt”

The recent Apple event, led to people making the stereotypical “I’ll have to sell my kidney to afford that phone!” joke. Which in my opinion, is completely fine because it’s been done so many times that I have literally muted the keyword “kidney” on Twitter, forever.

Golden Rule: If you cannot afford it, you shouldn’t buy it

Golden Rule II: If you don’t like it, you shouldn’t buy it.

But by hating and essentially getting butthurt over the fact that there are people who like the iPhone and can afford to buy one is extremely retarded. I remember writing about the fact that buying an iPhone may seem like a stupid idea, last year but my case wasn’t about being able to afford it or not. It was simply stating an opinion. That’s not to say that being butthurt isn’t an opinion because it obviously is, but having an opinion which is strong, bias and irrational and also which degrades someone’s purchase is not something anybody wants to read.

(I got hate for ordering the iPhone on Twitter, too. It was funny. )

“It’s. Their. Money. Not. Yours.”

Side-note: Whining about which platform is better is retarded unless you’re 16. A guy who bought an iPhone tends to tweet more about things related to Apple. If you don’t like that, you should probably unfollow him. You cannot be constantly butthurt and try being a wise-ass by saying things like “But Android had this last year!111 Omg how can you pay ₹ 55,000 for this?!!?!”

Another example: There was somebody who essentially said that one cannot know the reality of a city unless they take the public transport.

Yes, really.

To know the reality of the city you should travel in public transport. Flawless logic, right? If you don’t take the public transport and have a car, you obviously cannot know the reality. Duh. You have a car. Why do you give a shit? Who cares about the potholes, traffic jams and reckless drivers?

“TAKING THE FUCKING PUBLIC TRANSPORT IS THE ONLY FUCKING WAY I WILL ENTITLE YOU TO AN OPINON ABOUT WHAT THE REALITY OF THE CITY IS BECAUSE FUCK YOU FOR HAVING A CAR AND FUCK YOU FOR PAYING ROAD TAX AND SERVICE TAX AND VAT AND BEING ABLE TO AFFORD SHIT BECAUSE IF YOU CAN AFFORD SHIT YOU CANNOT HAVE A FUCKING OPINON!” - What You Sound Like When You’re Talking Shit on Twitter.

I honestly do think the public transport is bad but you cannot tell me I don’t know the reality of my own goddamn’ city just because I don’t take the public transport to work.

DO I NEED TO FUCKING APOLOGIZE FOR HAVING MONEY? - TL;DR

Most people are of the view that if you can afford things which they cannot:

A) You are wrong and you shouldn’t have an opinion

B) You don’t know how to spend money / Your priorities are wrong.

C) You don’t have a right to complain about anything because you have money.

D) Why don’t you donate it to a charity rather than buying insertnameofproduct?!

E) “Usske pass black money hai”

F) “Jhol kiya hoga!”

G) “Baap ka dhanda hai usske yaar. Usko kya karna hai? Woh toh sirf aish karega!”

Sorry to burst your bubble but people who make money have equal rights to complain about things. Rather, in some cases, more so. They have the right to complain about policies, reforms and tax agendas because those things actually matter to them. While you are slacking off at your social media job and being a complete retard on YouTube. There are people to whom governmental decisions and policies actually matter.

Thought of the day: Justifying your purchase is okay but ridiculing somebody else’s purchase isn’t.

The Indian eCommerce Story

I have been around people who are starting up their businesses in India recently. I speak to them about the decisions they take, have dialogues about the capital funding they require and mostly tell them they’re doing it wrong. Most of... Continue →
